If you're enrolled in a post-secondary institution that supports DreamSpark, Microsoft Imagine or MSDN distribution to their students you can potentially purchase a legitimate key for super cheap or get them literally handed out to you. Again, the watermark, customization lockout and lack of guaranteed updates are all downsides to this. You can simply not activate it if you need Windows right now but can't quite afford a key at this very moment.
